TFS has become more proactive.
They are following an Ontario directive (2012) from the Ontario Fire Marshall and Ministry of the Attorney General’s Office report on how municipalities should enforce the law.
After several inquests, TFS has adopted the recommended aggressive guideline, namely writing orders and going to court.
The previously used verbal warnings or letters and notices of violation will no longer be used.
Formal orders have replaced them, however an order does not necessarily result in a charge.
Owners are given reasonable time to address orders.

City of Toronto directed TFS to focus on highrise residential where there could be life and/or safety impacts on both firefighters and residents.
Aggressive enforcement where violations impact life and/or safety are the key priorities.

If a fire occurs, and especially if a death or injury ensues due to the fire, there will definitely be charges if any fire related infractions are discovered.
